Jalandhar February 11 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The PG Department of Mathematics of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya celebrated National Mathematics Day and organized One day Workshop-cum-Extension Lecture on “Calculus and Analysis Laboratory using SCILAB and MATLAB and it’s Applications ” on 1st Feb, 2025 under PSCST, Chandigarh with the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen.
The overall Incharge the workshop was Head of Department of Mathematics Dr. Gagandeep. The resource person for the workshop was Dr. Dilbag Singh, UGC Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Prof. Dilbag gave the lecture on the topic “Calculus and Analysis Laboratory using SCILAB and MATLAB”. SCILAB and MATLAB both are high performance software packages for computing and he provided a hands on practical information on these softwares.
Sir gave information which is the need of the hour for students who are dealing with problems of mathematics and require software knowledge for the same. Dr. Dilbag has explained about the different career opportunities in mathematics in different countries and have also elaborated the benefits of career in mathematics in future because of high use of Mathematics in upcoming technology like AI.

On the same day Mathematics department also organised Mathematical Games and Puzzles Competition and Poster Presentation Competition on the topic Maths for Future. Students of Mathematics department participated in these competitions with full enthusiasm. Students enjoyed a lot and actively answered the questions asked in Mathematical Games and Puzzles Competition.
More than 15 students got prizes for that. Students prepared very beautiful and attractive Posters using mathematical symbols, Patterns, formulas and concepts etc. Dr. Dilbag Singh acted as judge for this competition. In this competition Ms Ishika and Ms Neha of B.Sc Non Med Sem VI and Ruhani of B.Sc Eco Sem II got third prize, Kavya and Anu of B.Sc Non Med Sem IV got second prize, Bhavya of B.Sc Sem II got first prize. Students of B.Sc Sem II, IV, VI and M.Sc(Mathematics) participated in this workshop with full enthusiasm. Dr. Deepali presented vote of thanks for the event. The other faculty members of Mathematics Department Dr Gaurav Verma, Ms Charanjit were also present in this workshop.
