Jalandhar September 26 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, consistently organizes activities across various fields with the aim of fostering the holistic and multifaceted development of its students. To strengthen the students’ command of Hindi language, the college’s Hindi Department celebrated ‘Hindi Week’ on the occasion of Hindi Diwas. Poetess and writer Smt. Mamta Suri—a creative individual with a deep passion for literature—graced the event as the special guest. Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra welcomed and honored Smt. Mamta Suri by presenting her with a bouquet.
While welcoming Smt. Mamta Suri, Dr. Dhingra remarked that it was truly a privilege to have a woman of such powerful literary talent who’s written such moving poetry which touches people’s hearts in the college. Expressing her views on the excellence of the Hindi language, she stated that Hindi is undoubtedly the language capable not only of uniting India but also of propagating the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family) across the globe.
The program commenced with a rendition of Kabir’s dohas (couplets) by students from the Hindi and Music departments—Anurag Arora, Arshia, Diya, and Sonal—under the guidance of Dr. Amita Mishra. Nishant, a BBA fifth-semester student, stirred a spirit of valor in the audience by reciting a spirited poem based on Rashmarthi. Sonal, a BA fifth-semester student, moved the listeners deeply with a sense of compassion as she recited a poem she had penned herself in memory of her mother.

Diya, also a BA fifth-semester student, narrated a story based on an event from the Mahabharata, conveying the message that physical might is not always the answer; often, we can resolve even the most formidable problems through the power of intellect. Under the guidance of Dr. Mickey Verma, Navya—a first-semester M.A. Classical Dance student—immersed the audience in a spirit of devotion through a classical dance performance based on Ganesh Stuti.
Speaking on this special occasion, Smt. Mamta Suri remarked that Hindi is not only a source of pride but also the language of our soul; she noted that our own language serves as the most powerful medium for expressing the emotions of the heart. Addressing the students, she remarked that although the language used today, often referred to as ‘Zen G’s khichdi’, is becoming increasingly unstructured, speaking clearly and with refinement enhances one’s personality and character. She also recited a heartfelt, self-composed poem about the Hindi language and its pivotal role in the freedom struggle, captivating the entire audience.
To mark Hindi Diwas and the accompanying Hindi Week celebrations, prizes were awarded for various competitions. In the debate writing competition, the first prize went to Diya, while Khushi secured the second prize, Lakshmi Mane the third, and Nipun and Tisha Agarwal received consolation prizes. In the essay writing competition, the first position was awarded to Diya; Lakshmi Mane and Nishant Sharma took second place, while Jasleen Kaur and Shivam Sharma secured third place.

In the ‘Keh Tu Ek Kahani’ competition, Sonal secured first place, Diya and Riza shared second place, and Diya Talwar and Shivam Sharma shared third place. In the poetry recitation competition, Sonal took first place, Nishant took second, and Diya Talwar, Harsimar, and Mannatpreet Kaur shared third place.
In the poster-making competition, Japahuldeep Kaur won first place, Mahi second, and Muskan third, while Megha Thakur and Diya Talwar received consolation prizes. Dr. Jeevan Kumari and Dr. Rimpy Aggarwal served as judges for the poster-making competition; Ms. Anuradha for the poetry-writing competition; Dr. Raman Dhadra for the essay-writing competition; Ms. Chetna for the debate competition; and Dr. Anjana Kumari and Dr. Raman Dhadra for the poetry recitation and storytelling competitions.
Dr. Dhingra, Ms. Mamta Suri, and Dr. Anjana Kumari honored the winning students by awarding them prizes and certificates. Dr. Neerja Dhingra also honored Smt. Mamta Suri by presenting her with a memento. Dr. Dhingra highly appreciated the efforts of Dr. Anjana Kumari (Head of the Hindi Department) and Dr. Payal Arora for the successful organization of the Hindi Diwas celebration. Ms. Chetna and Ms. Diya played a pivotal role in making the event a success by gracefully conducting the proceedings.
