Jalandhar March 30 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The English Literary Society of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar organised a Paper Reading Contest on an intellectually-stimulating topic “Can Literature Change Society?”. The event provided a meaningful platform for students to express their ideas and engage in thoughtful discussion on the role of literature in shaping society.

Participants presented different viewpoints on how literature reflects social realities and also has the power to influence change. Through examples from various literary works, the students highlighted how writers raise awareness about social issues, challenge traditions, and inspire people to think differently. The presentations were engaging and reflected the students’ understanding and creativity.

The event proved highly useful for the students as it enhanced their critical thinking, and public speaking abilities. It encouraged them to read beyond the classroom and to connect literary ideas with real-life situations. Such activities help in building confidence, broadening perspectives, and nurturing a profound appreciation for literature as a tool for personal and social growth.

Ridhima of BA Semester II bagged first position and Gurleen of BA.B.Ed Semester IV made it to second position. The activity encouraged students to continue reading and analysing literature as a way to develop a deeper understanding of society and human values.

President Shri Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Shri Vinod Dada, other members of the managing committee and Principal Dr Pooja Prashar appreciated the successful organisation of the event and acknowledged the efforts of the Department and its Head, Mrs Aabroo Sharma. Mrs Gurjit Kaur, Dr Indu Tyagi and Mrs Mamta were also present.
