Jalandhar August 20 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Kushal Walia and Manitraj Singh, students of the PG Department of Multimedia at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, brought laurels to the college by successfully working as Assistant Directors on the Punjabi film ‘Yaar Jigree Kasooti Degree‘. Congratulating both the students, Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra said that they should continue to work hard to scale newer heights of success. The Department of Multimedia also organized an educational visit to PVR Cinemas, MBD Mall, Jalandhar, to encourage and inspire students and give them an opportunity to watch the film ‘Yaar Jigree Kasooti Degree’.
Dr. Dhingra stated that professional courses should not be limited to mere textbook knowledge in the classroom; rather, they should also strive to provide students with practical knowledge in their fields. She stated that the objective of screening this film was to provide students with practical experience in the art of filmmaking, and the techniques that help in skilling up. Beyond mere entertainment, the aim was to help students analyze and learn about various cinematic elements—such as storytelling, sound design, character development, editing, and visual effects—which are all crucial in the fields of multimedia and sound technology.
Cinema is not just about watching films; it is about understanding the art behind them
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Neerja Dhingra highlighted the importance of experiential learning, stating, “Cinema is not just about watching films; it is about understanding the art behind them. Such events enable our students to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practices.” The students expressed great enthusiasm and shared how the film provided them with new insights into narrative techniques and audiovisual coordination.
The visit also encouraged the students to critically evaluate how the younger generation can be connected to mythological literature by incorporating cultural stories and mythological themes into contemporary filmmaking. Dr. Dhingra encouraged Multimedia Department faculty members Mr. Ankit Goyal and Ms. Anjali, as well as Sound Technology faculty member Mr. Sanjeev, to continue initiatives like this and ensure that students remain constantly updated on the latest developments in the creative and media industries.
