Apeejay College Champions Sustainable Living on World Environment Day

Jalandhar June 5 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The NSS Wing of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, observed World Environment Day with deep environmental consciousness and a collective resolve to act. The theme this year centred on the escalating threat of plastic pollution, which has infiltrated ecosystems — from oceans to forests — endangering countless species.

On this occasion, students and faculty came together to pledge their commitment to environmental conservation and responsible living. Faculty members encouraged students to embrace eco-friendly habits, reduce plastic usage, and become mindful citizens. To deepen awareness, an informative video highlighting the devastating impact of plastic on marine life was screened, sparking thoughtful reflection.

In a practical and timely move, the college initiated a “Plastic-Free Campus” drive — urging students to shift to sustainable alternatives such as cloth bags, stainless steel bottles, and biodegradable materials for daily use. The campaign aims not only to reduce plastic waste but also to inspire lifestyle changes that align with global sustainability goals.

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra, in her address, noted, “With India now the most populous nation, our environmental responsibilities have grown manifold. The widespread use of non-biodegradable plastic poses a serious threat to our future. It is imperative that we transition to bioplastics and other sustainable alternatives. This is not merely a choice but a civic and moral duty.”

She further emphasized that true national progress must go hand-in-hand with environmental stewardship, urging every individual to contribute actively to a greener, healthier planet.
