Jalandhar April 19 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- A visit to a Synergy Pathology Laboratory, Jalandhar was organized by Zoology Department under DBT Star Scheme and the inspiring guidance of Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Mrs. Ajay Sareen for the students of B.Sc. Med. The aim of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to diagnostic procedures and laboratory techniques. Dr. Seema Marwaha, Head of the Zoology Department, motivated students to actively engage in the lab visit and provided guidance on preparing a project report based on their observations. During the visit, students observed various sections of the lab, including hematology, microbiology, biochemistry, and histopathology.

Dr. Deeksha Choudhary (M.D. Pathology), Director of Synergy Lab, elaborated on essential lab safety protocols, techniques for sample collection, handling, and storage, as well as the necessary precautions for processing samples. She also emphasized the importance of proper bio-waste disposal to ensure a safe and hygienic laboratory environment. The lab technicians demonstrated the process of blood sample collection, centrifugation, and analysis of blood parameters such as hemoglobin levels, blood sugar, and complete blood count (CBC). Advanced diagnostic equipment, including automated analyzers and microscopes, were used to examine blood smears and detect infections.

In the microbiology section, students learned about culture techniques for bacterial identification and antibiotic sensitivity testing. The biochemistry unit demonstrated biochemical assays for liver and kidney function tests. The histopathology department showcased the preparation of tissue samples for microscopic examination, explaining the significance of biopsy in disease diagnosis.

Dr. Sakshi Verma expressed heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Deeksha Choudhary and her team for their valuable time and contributions by presenting a planter as a token of gratitude. The visit was highly informative, allowing students to witness real-time diagnostic procedures and understand the role of pathology in healthcare. It also provided insights into laboratory safety protocols and quality control measures.
