8th International Design Week inaugurated at Apeejay College of Fine Arts Jalandhar

Jalandhar January 23 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar has carved a niche for itself as one of the best design colleges in North India taking inspiration from Dr. Stya Paul Ji (Founder Chairman, Apeejay Education) and guidance from Mrs. Sushma Paul Berlia, Chairperson, Apeejay Education. The eighth International Design Week was inaugurated by the Department of Design, Applied Art, Multimedia, Product Design, Sculpture and Fine Arts with the theme ‘Design Thinking’.

On the first day of the Design Week, Mr. Budi Loonen, Senior Art Director of ‘NO Tomato’ ad agency Netherlands and Dr. Rawal Singh Aulakh, Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture, Guru Nanak Dev University were present as key speakers.

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra warmly welcomed the key speakers and Dr. Sucharita Sharma (Pro Vice Chancellor of Apeejay Stya University) and said,” The expertise and guidance of our key speakers will surely guide our students and foster creativity in them and learning from them will give them an exposure and experience during this International Design Week.” She also shared that ACFA has been organizing Design Week since 2012 and since then the expert designers from Netherlands, China and Singapore are invited to address our students.

16 groups have been formed for 200 students

In fact our students always look forward to the Design Week every year. She added the students will learn the intricacies of design from the experienced source speakers.She further shared that in this Design week, 16 groups have been formed for 200 students in which they shall be sharing their ideas and make products.

The Design Week began with – “Design Thinking”. Mr. Budi Loonen, while addressing the students, said, ” To create a new design, first of all we have to go amongst the people and research their needs and then design the products accordingly which makes their lives more convenient.” He further inspired the students to meet the disabled people, know their problems and make products keeping in mind their needs and desires.

Addressing the students, Dr. Aulakh said, “Design is a process, be it in field of architecture, painting or design; we can move forward step by step by thorough research and can thus create better designs and contribute to the development.

Architecture Ms Seerat of ‘Out of the Box Architects and Interior’ Jalandhar was also present at the launch ceremony of the Design Week. Dr. Dhingra highly appreciated the efforts of faculty members of Departments of Design, Applied Art, Multimedia and Fine Arts for successfully organizing this programme.
