Jalandhar March 31 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The Department of Home Science at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, organised an insightful guest lecture on “Personalised Diet Counselling”, witnessing enthusiastic participation from both faculty members and students.
Expressing her views on the significance of such academic engagements, Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra remarked that in the contemporary era, individuals across youth and middle-age groups are increasingly grappling with diverse health challenges. She articulated, “Curated academic interfaces like these serve as catalysts for informed living, empowering individuals to recalibrate their dietary habits while fostering a culture of open dialogue around health concerns. Our endeavour is to create intellectually enriching platforms that inspire both students and educators to embrace holistic well-being and lead balanced, fulfilling lives.”
The session featured Ms. Vaishali Gupta, a distinguished Clinical Dietitian and Nutritionist, as the resource person. Addressing the theme “Personalised Diet Counselling for Health Concerns and Lifestyle,” she shed light on prevalent health issues such as PCOD, insulin resistance, weight gain, anaemia, and unhealthy weight loss, which are increasingly affecting not only middle-aged individuals but also the younger population.
She emphasised the pivotal role of a balanced and nutritious diet in preventing and managing such conditions. Highlighting the importance of discipline, she advocated integrating healthy eating habits with regular physical activity. Stressing on nutritional awareness, she encouraged the inclusion of protein-rich foods in daily diets and introduced the guiding principle of “Eat Local and Stay Global” as a sustainable approach to healthy living. She further elaborated that mindful dietary practices can significantly help in controlling conditions like diabetes.
Principal Dr. Dhingra appreciated the dedicated efforts of Dr. Monica Anand, Head of the Department of Home Science, for successfully organising the lecture and creating a meaningful learning experience for all attendees.
