Jalandhar December 24 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The PG Department of Mathematics of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar and HMV Collegiate Sr. Sec. School celebrated National Mathematics Day under the able guidance of the Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ekta Khosla, who consistently motivates the organization of such academic events from time to time. On this occasion, a seminar was conducted by Dr. Gagandeep, Associate Professor and Head of the PG Department of Mathematics, to commemorate the 138th birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan.
The seminar highlighted Ramanujan’s extraordinary journey in mathematics, detailing his transformation from a self-taught prodigy to a global icon. Dr. Gagandeep discussed key milestones in Ramanujan’s life and his enduring impact on modern science. She also demonstrated the remarkable properties of Ramanujan’s Magic Square. The seminar included a workshop session in which Dr. Gagandeep taught the general formula for creating a “Birthday Magic Square” for any given date.
She encouraged participants to use these patterns to promote mathematical playfulness and explore number theory beyond conventional textbooks. This programme will certainly inculcate and promote a positive attitude and help develop a passion for mathematics among the present generation. On this occasion, School Coordinator Mrs. Arvinder Kaur and Deptt. Members Dr. Deepali, Dr. Gaurav and Mrs. Charan were also present.
